Gretchen Norland

Norland Family

My family is a huge part of my success and happiness, and has been a source of constant encouragement during my professional career as an educator, and in my role as wife, mother, friend, and counselor. I feel blessed to have my husband, Randy, a farmer and musician, for 35 years of marriage; and our three adult children - Claire, Rachel, and Daniel - as my biggest fans and supporters.

My husband and I live on a farm outside of Lindsborg in an area called Black Canyon and Twin Mounds. We are surrounded by God's beauty, abundant wildlife, and the goodness of country-living.  Daughters Rachel and Claire both live in Lawrence. Kansas.  Rachel is an Art teacher in Lawrence, Kansas, having completed her student teaching through Bethany in 2014.  Claire is manager of a Buckle clothing store in downtown Lawrence and her husband, Denver, is a chef.  Daniel is an Airman First Class stationed in New Mexico, and proud to be serving his country.

As for me, I grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, and knew I was going to be a teacher from the time I was in sixth grade.  I attended Bethany in 1979 to become an English teacher, and that dream came true in the Lindsborg school district for 32 memorable years in middle and secondary levels.  This educational journey has come full circle for me, as I have returned to Bethany to give back my knowledge and years of experiences to those wishing to enter the challenging world of teaching, and believe they can make a difference for the future and success of young people.
